The "Oldpics" Collection
This is a collection of approximately 7,000 images of historic subjects, mainly covering the Surrey and Hampshire border area of England. In particular the towns of Alton, Farnham, Haslemere and Bordon, together with their surrounding villages, are well featured. The image above, taken by local Farnham inventor and photographer John Henry Knight in around 1880, shows Castle Street in the town. Thought by many to be one of the finest streets in England architecturally, this is now unfortunately often choked with traffic instead of the chimney smoke of Knight's day.
Other themes covered by the collection include industrial history subjects throughout Surrey and historic agricultural scenes, mainly in the south of England.
All the images are stored as negatives and are computer indexed. Special subject areas can be researched easily for inquirers and any suitable images found can be reproduced in a wide variety of formats, sizes and finishes. Typical uses for these images in the past has included book and magazine illustration, permanent historical features in public houses and as individual framed pictures for domestic use.
For further information, pricing or to enquire about a specific subject area please contact me by email, post or telephone.
I also can present a number of illustrated talks using these historic images. For more details please visit my Slide Presentations page. To see some modern photographs of Farnham and the surrounding area please click here.
